Waking up!

Posted by Mommy Edna Reyes en
There's this coffee commercial that highlights reasons why people wake up early in the morning. So many different reasons, a mother wakes up to star her day taking care of her children. A father wakes up to get to work and continue sustaining and providing for the family. A student wakes up to go to school and learn lessons in books and life.
Waking up for somebody is such a touching gesture. It makes us feel important and loved. But a baby waking up is something different. It reminds us that life is always hopeful and beautiful.  So as the commercial goes, What's your reason for waking up?

A Stormy Wedding

Posted by Mommy Edna Reyes en
During the surge of typhoon Ondoy, Carol and Tyrone had alreadt checked in to their hotel where their wedding reception would be held. They were both tensed knowing that Pag-asa, Philippines’ weather forecaster had predicted a stormy day on the very same day of their wedding and it would be imposible to make a cancellation for the reception or the wedding itself.
Every place was in deep water and the guests would have problems reaching the church or the reception. Too sad, most of their sponsors had not made confirmations of their coming. Carol’s female cousin was the only one who was present and even the hairdresser and make-up artist couldn’t make it. Tyrone’s  best man could not make it too. Tyrone’s parents  had called that their house were flooded up to the roof and had to be evacuated while Carol’s parent stranded in an airport be cause all incoming domestic and international flights in the Philippines were  cancelled. They were flying in from San Franncisco, California USA and were already stranded for two days. The couple wanted to called off the wedding but after some thoughts, agreed to push it through. They called on the church and told the officiating priest that the wedding is not cancelled.
Carol with the help of her cousin did her make-up and got ready early in the morning while Tyrone dressed up by himself. They agreed to share the bridal car just to reach the church on time but they were caught in a heavy traffic. The heavy rain pour made every road unpassable but this not stop them and decided to go through. It was a relief to see a firetruck on the way and they asked the firemen to give them a hitch . The delighted firemen agreed and under a heavy downpour, they managed to get to the church. The bride was soaking wet in her beautiful Terno wedding gown and  her groom in his dripping black tuxedo but they were  brimming with smile when they march down the aisle. Since they were no sponsors,  two chucrh workers  stood as  one and the firemen’s chief as the groom’s best man. The ceremony lasted only for a few minutes and when the groom kissed the bride, rushing waters came in and the church floor was knee deep flooded.
The firetruck brought back the newly wed to their hotel and to their surprise, the Hotel’s management agreed to reset the reception and  together with their small wedding entourage, the firemen and the church workers  were treated with a free good lunch.
The couple decided to celebrate their first year wedding anniversary with a renewal of their wedding vows and  of course with  a grand reception. The couple said “after going through with their wedding ordeal,  their love will surely endure every storm that would come their way!”

An act of Love

Posted by Mommy Edna Reyes en
They've been married for several years. They knew they still love each other. There have been no major problems in their marriage except for one. She had been busy for her thriving career as a Senior Creative Director of one of the leading Advertising company in their area. She lacks time for her husband, Geo who works as a freelance Architect. She's always on the go, leaving house most of the time while Geo has to stay home. He has their home as his office.
She knew her husband misses her. She can tell it by the way he touches her when she's too sleepy to respond to his romantic advances. "Not now, I'm too tired" Her  perennial reply although she knew for sure how much she too wants to climb over him and make love the way they used to. But she has seminars to attend to. Events that needs planning awaits her in the office. Oh, there's so much to be done. And all of her time had been consumed by all of this.
   Except of course by Geo.
"Honey," he interupted her as she is having a quick cup of hot choco. "I forgot to tell you, I made a duplicate key for your new car, just in case..." a shoulder hug ends his sentence. She smiled. "I slip them in your bag's side pocket."
   She kissed him goodbye .
All of her day were consumed. The event for a  new client was successfully launch. The on -going ad campaign for a male's perfumed ended with tremendous sign-ups. Her meeting for board punctuated with a new contract signing. She was exhausted and once again need to go home and dive into the comfort of their bed.
Without even noticing if ever Geo is beside her or not.
She took her car to the building's  car park. Shes too tired to noticed it was late and she's alone. The guard was in his desk, too far from where her car was.
She's too tired to noticed she 's being followed.
Then with an instinct, she swayed back and saw a man in black leather jacket who was few steps behind her. She knew too well she's in danger. She walked fast as she can. Run and walk was what she did but the man was still behind her. She thought of Geo. She thought of all the things she could have done for him. All the time wasted by her consuming work load.
She reached for her car keys. Her hands were trembling as she held them tight in her hands. Then she felt a hand grabbing her wrist.
She looked up and saw the man in black leather jacket. She tried to free herself from his tight hold. She dropped her keys.
Panic was all over her. She remember what she had learned in one of those seminar for w omen's protection against petty crimes and rape attacks. She kicked the man's ball and run as fast as she could. She shouted but she knew no one could hear her.
She saw her car. She run for it but she was at a lost. Her keys. She dropped her keys!
Then she remembered that morning. She remembered that loving look on Geo's face.
She slipped her hands to her bag's side pocket. Felt something on it and before the man could get near her, she opened her car 's door with the key. She closed it and start the car.
She left the car park safe and unharmed.
"Hi,honey, guess what, I made you a pasta casserole, your favorite cheese on it." Geo said as he greeted her with a warm kiss.
She smiled at him. Then crossed her arms around his neck.
"Sorry...sorry!" was all she could uttered. She kissed him hard on the lips. Hard enough to make him feel she's ready . Ready for him to make up for what they've been missing.
After a while, she told him of her story.
"You saved me,Honey...your simple act of love not only save my life but our marriage too!"
